'Worshipping God, and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and action'
Springs of Living Water Flower Festival
Our 3 day flower festival to coincide with the celebrations of 400 years of Tunbridge Wells is over and we have had a marvellous time. The church looked splendid - stunning, in fact - and was buzzing with activity all the three days from 10.30am - 5pm.
In the glass vestibule we were welcomed (after passing through 2 pom-pom tree arrangements by the door) by a wonderful shower arrangement of "the fountain of life", and a big poster exhorting us to "Praise God from whom all blessings flow".
There were roughly 18 arrangements all around the church, from one with a big mirror on a window sill called "Reflections", to an arrangement with a jug and a basin, a towel and an old pair of sandals of "Jesus washes the disciples' feet". The children made lovely large daisies with their hand prints, and lots of fish in a net. From beautiful flowers in stunning arrangements to baby Moses trying to sleep in his basket in very tall bulrushes. There were even delicate arrangements in very pretty cups and saucers on the tables where there were lovely things available to eat and drink all day!
We estimate that about 250 friends, neighbours and new acquaintances visited us. Because the theme of the festival was Christ's offer of living water given without cost, donations for the charity Water Aid were invited. This charity aims to provide water for communities that are without. Around £1000 was raised.
Our town began because Lord North discovered the Chalybeate Spring in 1606, so it is fitting that we joined in the town's celebrations. Without water, nothing can live. We remember that Jesus offers that special living water which is himself. Without Jesus, we cannot really live.
